Curriculum

Beacon School is a private, international, Christian basic school registered under Ghana Education Service of the Ministry of Education. We offer a combination of Ghana Education Service curriculum and the English National Curriculum.

 

Preschool

With a large variety of educational resources and games at their disposal, teachers in our preschool adopt a more sensorial, creative approach to learning, with both focused times with the teacher and opportunities for independent learning.

  • Literacy – follows the objectives of the English National Curriculum, with emphasis on phonics, developing a joy for reading and early creative writing.
  • Numeracy – follows the objectives of the English National Curriculum, with children being encouraged to develop number sense and spatial awareness rather than memorise formula.
  • Science and Moral Education – based on YWAM’s University of the Nations’ material called A Biblical Foundation for Early Childhood Education.
  • Primary
  • Literacy – follows the English National Curriculum, adapted for the local context
  • Numeracy – follows the English National Curriculum
  • Science – a combination of the English National Curriculum and the Ghana Education Service curriculum
  • Ghanaian Language and Culture
  • Humanities (Social Science)
  • French

  • Bible Time
  • Junior High Pupils are prepared for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and therefore study the following subjects:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • General Science
  • Social Studies
  • Ghanaian Language and Culture
  • Religious and Moral Education
  • French
  • ICT
  • Basic Design and Technology – with a focus on Visual Arts
  • Bible TimePupils are prepared for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and therefore study the following subjects:
  • Secondary (Year 7 – 10)
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Humanities (Geography, History etc.)
  • French
  • Music
  • Art and Design
  • ICT
  • Bible Time
  • Electives – From Year 10 (Economics, Business Studies, Enterprise etc.)
  • Early Research Skills Independent Research Projects – from Primary 3, all children undertake an independent research project. Children often choose the research topics themselves. The project is presented as an extended written assignment, followed by an oral presentation to a wider group.
